What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine offers a wide variety of natural treatments that are specific to the patient’s wellness needs. The goal is to treat the cause of a sickness or disease rather then mask the symptoms with a drug. The main principal is to use the inherent healing power of nature to boost the body’s “vital force” or ability to heal itself and reach an optimal state of health. Better health equates to a better life.
Naturopathic medicine is based upon several tenets that are inherent to the way we practice our medicine. These principals combine to form a healing art that looks at entire patient in order to treat the cause or their illness and disease and not simply cover up the symptoms. Using a comprehensive food plan, nutrition and supplements can help a client achieve their health goals. Nutrition – natural supplements and vitamins - can be especially helpful for various diseases, weight loss, immune support and managment of optimal health. Everything should begin with good nutrition. Unfortunately our busy lifestyles do not allow for us to have the perfect diet. Adding vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can help any defiences that we may have in our diet. Combining nutrition and supplements promotes optimal health.
What can I expect?
Your initial Naturopathic consultation typically takes an hour and a half in time, and will include a complete health history. There is some paperwork, so we advise you to arrive about 15 minutes early to fill that out. The rest of the time is spent WITH the doctor, talking about all your history, lifestyle and more! You'll leave with a new understanding of your current issues and a list of things you can do to get better that don't require "pills!" Don't worry, IF the need arises where a pill can be beneficial, our doctors can perscribe what is needed when necessary!
